The region of Axarquía

La Posada Morisca is situated on the eastern edge of the province of Malaga, on the border with Granada, in the heart of the region of Axarquía.

These lands of Axarquía combine to offer a warm coastal area and an inland area where the mountains are lost in the snow-covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada.

Within this enormous mountain range are the mountains of Alhama, Tejada and Almijara, recently declared a Natural Park. Here the Peak of La Maroma stands majestically, the highest point in the province of Malaga at a height of 2066 metres.

The history of the region is undoubtedly linked to the passage of the Arabs through these lands who gave, not only their name, but also their customs and culture which have remained unaltered over the passing of time.

On your travels through Axarquía you can follow five tourist routes: La Ruta del Vino (Wine), La Ruta del Sol y Subtropical (Sun and Subtropical, also known as the avocado route), La Ruta Mudéjar (Mudejar), La Ruta de la Pasa (Raisin) and La Ruta del Aceite y de los Montes (Oil and the Mountains).
